This is a private, fully guided Chan May to Hue shore excursion. A licensed local guide meets you inside the port at the Internal Gate — a short, level 200-metre walk from your ship, while unregistered drivers wait outside the main gate 700 metres out — and brings you to a royal tomb of your choice, the Imperial City and — when your ship’s clock allows — Thien Mu Pagoda, with a set lunch of Hue dishes included. Every timing is published below, including the order in which stops are shortened if traffic is slow, and your vehicle passes back through the port gate at least 75 minutes before all-aboard. Prices start at $139 per person for a group of eight, with a $39 deposit and the balance paid on the day. If your ship skips the port, the deposit is refunded automatically.
WHY THIS DAY WORKS ON A SHIP’S CLOCK
- We meet you inside the port. As a port-registered operator, we collect you at the Internal Gate — about 200 level metres from your ship; the per-person port permit and border fee are already in your price. Unregistered drivers wait outside the main gate, a 700-metre walk in sun or rain. And a note of honesty: nobody meets you at the gangway itself — only the port’s own coaches may park beside the ship, whatever other websites promise.
- The timing is published, not promised. You can read the full schedule below, minute by minute, including what gets shortened first if the roads are slow. The return buffer is never touched. We have never returned a guest late; if we ever do, your tour is free.
- A licensed guide. Your guide is a licensed English-speaking local who has worked for years — you’ll receive their name, photo and WhatsApp number 48 hours before your ship arrives.
- No unsolicited shopping stops. Your itinerary contains none, and your guide will never suggest one. If you’d like to visit a craft workshop, simply ask, and we’ll gladly fit it in.
- Don’t port, don’t pay. If your ship cannot dock — weather, schedule change, any reason — your deposit comes back. No forms, no requests.

A royal tomb — your choice
One tomb, done properly: Khai Dinh's glass-and-porcelain burial chamber (127 steps), Tu Duc's lakeside retreat, or Minh Mang's grand ceremonial axis. Your guide helps you choose to suit the weather and your walking comfort.

Up to two hours through Ngo Mon Gate, the Thai Hoa throne hall, the dynastic temples and the covered galleries. Routes favour shaded corridors, with plenty of spots to pause — your guide sets the pace to the group.

A fixed mark. Your guide holds it. If the morning has run ahead of schedule, Thien Mu Pagoda is added before the drive back — a bonus, never a promise.

IF THE DAY RUNS SLOW
Honest answer first: delays on this route are genuinely rare — it is open coastal highway, not city traffic, and we have never returned a guest late because of it. But a plan you will probably never need should still exist in writing, so here it is: if the day somehow runs slow, lunch is shortened to 40 minutes first, then the Imperial City visit is trimmed. The 13:45 departure from Hue and the 75-minute port buffer are never touched. Far more often the day runs ahead of schedule — and that is when your guide adds Thien Mu Pagoda as a bonus. Either way, you will never have to ask “will we make it?” — the answer is built into the day.
RAIN PLAN
Hue’s cruise season overlaps its rainy season, so the wet-weather version is designed in advance, not improvised: the Imperial City route shifts to the covered galleries, and your guide will steer the tomb choice to Tu Duc, whose covered pavilions were built for exactly this weather. Umbrellas and rain ponchos are kept in the vehicle from October to December.

We have never returned a guest late. If we ever do, your tour is free.
What happens if our ship skips Chan May or arrives late?
If the ship cannot dock at all, your deposit is refunded automatically — no request needed. If it docks up to 90 minutes late, the day runs on the published shortening order at no extra charge. Later than that, we offer a shortened programme or a full refund; your choice.
Is this tour manageable for guests who don’t walk far?
Yes, with honesty about what’s involved. The Imperial City is a two-hour walk on flat ground, along shaded corridors with plenty of places to sit — your guide paces it to the group, never the other way around. Khai Dinh’s tomb has 127 steps; guests who prefer not to climb can simply choose Tu Duc or Minh Mang instead, or enjoy a seated alternative with the guide’s photographs. Bathroom stops come at least every 90 minutes, always at places we’d use ourselves.
How do we pay?
A $39 deposit secures your date. The rest is paid on the day of the tour, in cash (USD or VND). No other charges, no surcharges on the day.
