Imperial City ticket + royal tea
Most visitors enter the Hue Imperial City and meet a scatter of beautiful gates and palaces with no thread between them — vast, hot, and easily walked as a checklist you forget by evening. The citadel was not built that way. It was organised around a single ceremonial axis, with the dynasty’s separate worlds set on either side: the hall of ceremony, the temple of ancestors, the queen mothers’ residence, the inner Forbidden City.
This three-hour walk circles those worlds first, then rejoins the axis where it matters most — so the place stops being a row of monuments and becomes the daily geography of Nguyen power. A licensed guide selected by Vietnam Legacy Tours holds the thread from gate to gate, and the walk closes seated over royal tea rather than at another doorway. Shaded courtyards and frequent rests keep the pace comfortable in any season.

The Axis of Power
You enter as the court once did, along the central axis only the emperor could cross. Ngọ Môn, the Meridian Gate, sets the citadel's spine; beyond it, Điện Thái Hoà — the Throne Palace — held coronations and the great audiences.
Ancestors & Memory
Here the dynasty kept its own record. Thế Miếu shelters the altars of the Nguyễn emperors; before it stand the Cửu Đỉnh — nine bronze urns cast under Minh Mạng in the 1830s, each a portrait of a reign in mountains, rivers and ships. Behind them rises Hiển Lâm Các, the tallest pavilion inside the walls.
The Private Worlds
Past the public halls lies the world few outsiders saw. Cung Diên Thọ housed the queen mothers; the Tử Cấm Thành — the Forbidden Purple City — belonged to the emperor and his family alone. We trace the restored Thiệu Phương garden, the rebuilt Kiến Trung Palace where the last Nguyễn rulers lived, and finish at Tứ Phương Vô Sự, the open pavilion on the northern wall.

Where does the walking tour start, and is hotel pickup included?
We meet at the Ngọ Môn gate ticket office, on the south side of the Imperial City. Hotel pickup within the city is included on the private option, so you can also be collected and walked or driven to the gate.
How long is the tour and how much walking is involved?
About three hours at an unhurried pace, mostly on flat, paved paths with regular stops in the shade. We set the pace to the slowest walker and shorten the route for anyone who prefers to walk less.
Is the Imperial City entrance ticket included?
Yes. The entrance ticket is included in the price, so there is nothing to buy at the gate.
Is it suitable for older travellers, children, or in hot weather?
Yes. The pace is set by the group, we carry water, and from May to August we start early and keep to the shaded courtyards. Children are welcome; the stories are told for everyone at the table.
What is your cancellation policy?
