Frequently asked questions

What is there to do at Chan May cruise port?

Very little at the port itself. A few stalls by the wharf sell drinks and coffee, and there is no town within walking distance of the gate. Everything worth seeing is between thirty minutes and two hours away by road: Hue is 60–65 km north, Da Nang 45–55 km south and Hoi An about 76 km south, so arrange your transport before you dock.

Is it cheaper to book shore excursions on the ship?

We publish every price, so you can compare it with your ship’s programme: private days from Chan May start at US$84 per person or US$158 per car, and from Tien Sa at US$79 per person or US$77 per car. A US$39 deposit holds your date and is refunded automatically if your ship cannot dock.

How far is Chan May Port from Da Nang?

Chan May Port is 45 to 55 km north of Da Nang city centre, about an hour by road through the Hai Van tunnel. Da Nang’s own cruise port, Tien Sa on the Son Tra peninsula, is 51 km from Chan May and takes about an hour and twenty minutes, because the road runs through the city. If your programme says Da Nang, check which port your ship is using.

Where do cruise ships dock at Chan May?

Alongside the wharf: Chan May is not a tender port, so you walk down the gangway as soon as your ship clears. The port has two gates. We meet you at the Internal Gate, about 200 metres from the gangway, a flat three-minute walk; taxis and operators without a port permit wait at the External Gate, about 750 metres from the gangway and 500 metres beyond our meeting point.

What if my ship is late or cannot dock?

If your ship cannot dock, your US$39 deposit is refunded automatically, with no request needed. If it docks late, the day follows the shortening order published on each tour page, at no extra charge, so you know in advance which stop gives way first. Each tour page also sets out what happens if your ship is very late.
